Why yes, my glasses do say juicy on them.

If you were unable to guess from my last post, I adore couture.

Juicy Couture, that is.

Now I know that it is all the rage with the pre-pubescent crowd these days.  I knew my days of carrying around my cute, embroidered juicy tote were over when I saw a middle school tween in nordy's with the same one.  Sad.

However, that does not mean that I can't still love the brand.  I would probably die with out my velour hoodies.  Those zip ups are necessary in a girl's life.   There isn't much else one can throw on at 630 in the morning, and still look pretty stylish and comfortable. These days I just opt for the ones that don't have JUICY splashed all over them.

So, aside from those hoodies, and the occasional bracelet, I try to steer clear of the teenage fashion obsession.  But,  I had to toss that rule aside the other day when I set foot in my eye doctor's office

Eye doctor's office?

what are you talking about M?

They don't sell juicy things there!

au contraire.  They do indeed!

So I was running errands one afternoon last week, and one of my stops was to order more contacts to use the rest of our insurance up before the move.  It was a good deal to get a few free boxes, seeing as 1800contacts was currently bankrupting me anytime I needed a new box.

When I approached the desk, the woman sitting there had the most adorable glasses on and when I commented she stood and grabbed my hand.  "You look like a fashionable girl, instead of contacts why don't you have a look at this wall."

The last time that I chose a pair of glasses was in middle school.  And that was the last time I wore a pair of glasses out into public.  I insisted on getting contacts as soon as I could, and saved the wearing of my atrocious glasses for only right before bed.  They choices of eye wear were as follows: brown, black, or tan.  In essence: boring, more boring, and exceptionally boring.

But, oh how the times have changed.

The woman led me to a wall full of couture glasses.  Coach, Prada, Gucci, D & G, you name it.

And then in a little corner of heaven I spotted rows of brightly colored frames.

"what brand are these?" I wondered as I held them close and inspected the jeweled cherries on the side.  Once I flipped them to the other side, there in shiny, gold script read Juicy.

Ah, no wonder I picked that pair up first!

long story, or rather blog short, I walked out that day without contacts.

and there in the mail a few days later there they were.  They were sitting in that little brown post office box, shining up at me.

Behold, my new Juicy Couture glasses, aptly and appropriately named society girl.

thats all

ciao for now

Tutus, and tights, and couture, oh my!

When we are little we lay in our beds at night and before we drift off to sleep we dream of the many possibilities that lay before us.  The inevitable question: what will we be when we grow up.  In fact, I don't know about you, but I still ask myself that question.

Some of us dream of being police officers (love you, my darling husband).

Some of us dream of being pirates (cough, Momo, cough)

and even some of us dream of famous soccer stars (I know its true E).

But I dreamt of something different.  I dreamt of Tulle, and sequins, and pink pointe shoes.  I dreamt of Tutu's and tights, and ribbons.  I dreamt of costumes, and the lights of the stage, and the applause of the audience.

I dreamt of being a prima ballerina.

Pretty common as far as little girls go, I suppose.  I had to chose something to base my whims and fantasies on, and according to my mother, my other options of princess or a fairy were not going to be plausible.

I remember begging and begging her to sign me up for ballet.  I wanted to dance.  But after a failed attempt at kindergarden gymnastics, she was hasty to sign me up for something else I would tire of after the first week.  So, we made a deal.  She wanted me to play soccer, to learn a team sport.  And if I survived that, then I could pick an activity.

Ballet it was.

I still remember the first time I walked into the studio.  A magic room full of mirrors, "that way I will be able to see my beautiful, pink tutu no matter where I am twirling" I recall thinking to myself.  It wasn't that narcissistic. No really.  It wasn't me that I wanted to see spinning across air, it was the costume that made me feel like the princess I had wanted to be.

I quickly learned, thanks to my very first ballet instructor, that dance was a strict art form.  And it was more than just whirling around the floor.  It was learning to control your movements, and conform your body with grace and agility. Knowing how to be in control of your balance, having complete command of your own body.

As my love for dance, and love for the discipline has evolved over the years so has my love of the beautiful costumes that we would don on stage.  As I no longer dance, I no longer have a reason to wear said costumes.  This makes for a very sad M.

Those of you that know me, can say that one of my other great loves in life, besides dancing, is fashion.  I will try any type of outfit at least once.  And I long for great style that sets me apart from the norm.  When you wake up in the morning, you have the opportunity to express something about yourself in your choice of what you put on your body.  Why not make it something fun and unique.  One of my hands down favorite designers is of course, Betsey Johnson.  I, perhaps, own way too many of her dresses, or so I've been told.  On a recent visit, much to my delighted surprise, I discovered a girly pink tutu in their front window.

It was like the little girl inside me was twirling across the floor again.

I was so excited.  It just couldn't be true.  Now that I was old enough to decide what I wanted to wear (no my mom would never let me wear that tutu to school as a child), and now that I could afford it I was going to own that tutu.  I could just see it sitting in my closet, and then I could just see myself waltzing through walnut creek a la carrie bradshaw style.

all in my little pink tutu.

that was until I saw the 300 dollar price tag.

Really Betsey?

for some pink fabric.

But who was I kidding, it was more than that.  That sparkly pink fabric was childhood incarnate.

Much to my dismay, I waved goodbye to the 300 dollar, way out of my range tutu.  and I should really get a cyber pat on the back for that one folks because you know how hard it is for me to walk away from a thing like that.  I didn't call myself Mrs. Shopaholic for nothing.

But what can I say?  Thank god for friends like E, who maticulously search the internet for other couture tutu's.  And viola, like magic she produced something even better.

A JUICY COUTURE TUTU

yes, thats right.  In an entire rainbow of colors.  now the only problem is which color? better hope I don't end up with too many.  Tutu's tend to take up too much space in one's closet.  But they are worth it.

thats all

The Return of the Vampire Slayer?

Guilty pleasures.

We all have them.

Some may even be quite embarrassing.

To clear the air, there are many embarrassing guilty pleasures that I have.  For one, I love musicals.  And I don't just love them.  I mean I freaking ADORE them.  You could probably find every musical ever made on my ipod.  And I have to listen to them when I clean.  Its strange, I know.  But folding laundry and vacuuming just isn't them same without blasting Wicked and singing at the top of your lungs.

Since I am staying with my mother in law while the Hubby is in boot camp, this is a guilty pleasure that my in laws recently discovered while I was cleaning my room last weekend.

MUCH to their dismay.

I digress.  Aside from my other guilty pleasures.  Bad gossip magazines, teen novels (always embarassed when I'm caught in the teen section of Borders), mexican food, and of course shoes, I have one obsession that is nerdier than the rest.

And lets face it, I am an absolute nerd at heart.

My favorite show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Ok, seriously go ahead and laugh.

But I LOVE that show.  Always have, always will.  And I will debate you to the death about the genius writing, the complex story lines, and the unique characters.  It was a cult following that was never given enough credit.  In this day and age for any show to remain on the year for seven years, it must be doing something right.

Anyways, the brains behind Buffy (also known for a little film known as Toy Story) has struck again in the form of a new show called Dollhouse.  It is 3 episodes in, and I am officially labeling it my new guilty pleasure. Joss Whedon seriously has my heart for making a show worth watching again.  I can only hope that it doesn't get lost in the mix of all the bad reality tv shows out there.  Survivor, American Idol (HATE IT), dancing with the stars (really?), and don't even get me started on the MTV crap.

So is this the return of the vampire slayer? Well she certainly is no Sarah Michelle Gellar, but our favorite five by five rogue slayer is back.  Thats right, Faith, or Eliza Dusku has the title role of Echo in dollhouse.  If you like sci fi then you really need to check it out.  Some other cast favorites have returned in this reincarnation. Let me know when you spot them.

here is a synopsis....

Echo, a member of a group of people known as "Actives" or "Dolls". The Dolls have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas, including memory, muscle memory, skills, and language, for different assignments (referred to as engagements). The new persona is not an original creation, however, but an amalgam of different, existing personalities. The end result incorporates some of the flaws, not just the strengths, of the people used as templates. The Actives are then hired out for particular jobs – crimes, fantasies, and the occasional good deed. On engagements, Actives are monitored internally (and remotely) by Handlers. In between tasks, they are mind-wiped into a child-like state and live in a futuristicdormitory/laboratory, a hidden facility nicknamed "The Dollhouse".

that is all.

ciao for now :)

These are my confessions

Remove Formatting from selectionHello and welcome to my very first blog attempt!  I cannot claim credit for this, as I have been inspired to blog by both my husband and my Bestie.  First, let me start by saying this blog is for those who know me, and therefore if you are a stranger do not expect to understand half of my ramblings.  But to my nearest and dearest, I hope that you will find this experience both humorous and interesting.

Just trying to offer a nice, little insight to your friend M.

My grand plan is to keep this blog up when the hubby and I make our big move to Arizona.  That way we can all keep in touch and I will have a place to share all of our adventures once we arrive. This is an incredibly hectic time in my life, but there are many, many, many wonderful things coming up in the next few months that I needed an outlet to put them all in writing.

Well as my previously mentioned Bestie put it in her own blog, these introductions are boring but necessary.  Since most of you know me from different areas of my life... school, work, teaching, etc, I can sum myself up pretty quickly.

These are the confessions and inner workings of a now married, crazy in love, wanna-be world traveler, vino loving, fashion craving, baseball obsessed, animal saving, Obama supporting, soon to be elementary teaching, book wormy, concert going, Chicago native, shopaholic, ex teenage drama queen.

That was a mouthful.

Well in closing as Carrie Bradshaw once wondered, these are my tales of what happens after happily ever after.

:)
